Attica has just certified as a B Corporation
We proudly acknowledge the Bunurong as the first people to love, live and dine on the lands on which Attica sits today.
We recognise that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Peoples were the first sovereign nations of Australia from time immemorial, and they never ceded this sovereignty.
Attica has just certified as a B Corporation
After over two years, and plenty of blood, sweat and tears, Attica has gained B Corporation certification.

Ben Shewry and B Corporation
We are excited to announce that in February, Attica became certified as a B Corporation, realising a long-held goal of Attica owners Ben and Kylie Shewry – not to be one of the best restaurants in the world but to be one of the best small businesses, inspired by other rad companies we admire who also happen to be B Corps, such as Patagonia, Market Lane Coffee and Burton.
Attica is committed to being an ethical, responsible and more sustainable business, not only for our guests but also for our staff, our community and our one shared home – planet Earth. (Sorry, Elon, but I don’t want to live on Mars.)
But what the hell is a B Corp, you ask?
B Corporations are for-profit businesses that have undertaken, with full accountability and transparency, a rigorous (read: VERY difficult to achieve) assessment of their company by B LAB, the non-profit that certifies B Corporations. B Corps are companies that blend profit with purpose in order to disrupt the capitalist system of a profit-at-all-costs mentality.
Why would we want to put ourselves through a two-and-a-half-year certification process that nearly drove our GM Kylie mad?
Because, while we are not perfect, we believe it’s easy to look good (with social media and all!) but much harder to be good. Certifying as a B Corp means we don’t need to tell you that Attica is doing the best it can; we’ve had the wise minds at B Lab take a holistic 360-look at our business practices and they’ve judged that Attica is built on an ethical foundation. As a restaurant, we consider ourselves leaders, and this certification allows us to help set a new standard, far removed from greenwashing. Fun fact: in less than three years, we’ll have to put ourselves through all of this again to recertify. Sustainability ‘set and forget’ B Corp is not.
Why should you give a damn?
Where you spend your hard-earned matters. Consumers have much more authority than they know – by choosing to dine with us, you are choosing a restaurant that has taken a good hard look at itself. We’ve poked holes in what we do and where we could do better and we’ve made changes. We believe there is no time to waste, and that it’s on all of us, including restaurants, to do better. By supporting Attica, you support a restaurant that has made a genuine and deep commitment to being the best it can be – not only on the plate but across all the things you can’t see when you slap down a significant wad of your cash on our tables.
